ANTONY REVEALS HE REJECTED BAYERN MUNICH BEFORE PERMANENT MOVE TO REAL BETIS
Brazilian winger Antony has revealed that he turned down a late approach from Champions League giants Bayern Munich before sealing his permanent transfer from Manchester United to Real Betis.
Antony, 25, joined Betis on deadline day in a £21.65 million deal after spending the second half of last season on loan with the Spanish side. The forward struggled for consistent game time under United boss Ruben Amorim, which paved the way for his exit.
Speaking after his unveiling in Spain on Tuesday, Antony disclosed that several clubs tried to lure him away, including Bayern. However, he chose to keep his word to Betis.
“I spoke with Bayern, I don’t know if it [the salary offer] was €7 million, but I said I had Betis’ word and that it was 95% closed and that I would respect my word,” Antony told Cadena COPE.
“I feel calm about making this decision because I am very happy here. More than five teams called me.”
Antony’s commitment to Betis has already made him a fan favorite, with supporters hopeful that his permanent arrival will strengthen the squad as they prepare for the new La Liga season.
