Nigerian-British heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is preparing to step into the ring in Africa for the first time, with plans underway for a fight in Nigeria.

The two-time world champion has long expressed his desire to stage a bout in his home country, and that dream is edging closer to reality.

Promoter Ezekiel Adamu confirmed that arrangements are being made for an early 2026 showdown, adding that discussions with Joshua’s camp have been encouraging.

“I’ve spoken with him and his team, and they made it clear that if an opportunity comes from Nigeria, it’s a perfect match,” Adamu revealed.

“Joshua has always said he wants to fight in Nigeria before retiring, and we are committed to making it happen.”

Adamu disclosed that the proposed venue is the 50,000-capacity Abuja Stadium, with the event planned as an all-African contest.

“For that reason, it will definitely feature two African fighters. We are considering possible opponents such as Tony Yoka, Martin Bakole, and even Deontay Wilder, who has Nigerian roots and is also keen on fighting in Africa,” he said.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
