ANGELIQUE KIDJO TO MAKE HISTORY WITH HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME STAR

Five-time Grammy Award-winning Beninese musician Angélique Kidjo is set to become the first African musician and first Black African artist to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Kidjo will receive the 2,854th star in the Recording category during a ceremony scheduled for August 18, 2026, on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles.

The honour marks a major milestone for African music and recognises Kidjo’s more than four decades of contributions to global music and culture.

Born in what is now Benin, Kidjo has built an international career by blending West African musical traditions with genres including jazz, R&B, funk, Afropop, and Latin music.

She has released numerous albums and collaborated with several leading international and African musicians throughout her career.

Beyond music, Kidjo has used her global platform to advocate for children’s rights, education, and development across Africa.

Her career has earned her five Grammy Awards, as well as other international honours and recognition for her contributions to music and humanitarian causes.

Hollywood Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez said Kidjo’s artistry and global influence had inspired audiences across generations and continents.

Actor Willem Dafoe and Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. are expected to join Kidjo at the ceremony.

Kidjo’s recognition also adds to the growing international visibility of African artists and their contributions to global culture.

She previously said she hoped her achievement would open the door for many more African artists to receive similar recognition.

The milestone is expected to further cement Kidjo’s status as one of Africa’s most influential musicians and cultural ambassadors.
