ANAMBRA WOMAN SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS FOR HUMAN TRAFFICKING
A 44-year-old woman, Goodness Daniel, has been sentenced to five years in prison by the Anambra State High Court in Awka for her involvement in human trafficking.
The judgment, delivered on June 27, 2025, by Justice Peace Otti, offered the convict an option of a ₦2 million fine in lieu of imprisonment.
Daniel was found guilty of trafficking in persons, specifically the buying and selling of human beings, in violation of Section 21 of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
The case was prosecuted by the Anambra State Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), which brought charges against Daniel after her arraignment on July 9, 2024.
The court further directed her to pay ₦2.6 million as restitution to the victim, who also testified as a prosecution witness.
NAPTIP described the ruling as a major achievement in its continued fight against human trafficking and its commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of victims nationwide.
