The Anambra State Government has declared Tuesday, October 7, 2025, a school-free day in honour of teachers across the state.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, in a statement issued on Monday in Awka.

According to her, the decision was approved by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to commemorate teachers following the 2025 World Teachers’ Day, which fell on Sunday, October 5.

“In view of the fact that the 2025 World Teachers’ Day fell on a Sunday, Mr Governor has approved Tuesday as a school-free day to celebrate and honour teachers in the state,”
the Commissioner said.

Chuma-Udeh added that the Solution Parents League will hold a mega endorsement march in appreciation of Governor Soludo’s achievements in the education sector.

She noted that members of the Association of Private School Owners would also join the march, which will take place at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, by 8:00 a.m.

“All teachers, parents, and proprietors/proprietresses are expected to assemble at the Alex Ekwueme Square to give honour to whom honour is due,”
she added.

The announcement comes as teachers across Nigeria continue to demand better welfare, improved working conditions, and the full implementation of the 65-year retirement age policy.

At various events held nationwide to mark World Teachers’ Day, education stakeholders decried poor remuneration, inadequate facilities, and slow policy implementation, urging governments to prioritise teachers’ welfare and uphold commitments to strengthening the education system.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
