ANAMBRA GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION: INEC CONFIRMS 2.8 MILLION REGISTERED VOTERS
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final voter registration figures ahead of the upcoming Anambra governorship election.
In a statement issued on Thursday after its weekly meeting, INEC confirmed that a total of 2,802,790 voters are now on the register for the election.
Between July 8 and July 20, 2025, voter registration was carried out across the 326 wards in the state, during which 168,187 new citizens registered. However, through its Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS), INEC detected and removed 27,817 invalid multiple registrations.
This left 140,370 valid new voters, in addition to 5,983 people who successfully transferred their voting locations into Anambra State, bringing the total new additions to 146,353 voters.
Before the latest exercise, Anambra already had 2,656,437 registered voters, which has now increased to 2,802,790.
Breaking down the figures by Local Government Area (LGA):
Idemili North has the highest number with 246,318 voters (8.79%).
Awka South follows with 216,611 voters (7.73%).
Ogbaru is next with 188,016 voters (6.71%).
On the lower end, Dunokofia has 83,580 voters (2.98%), while Anambra West has the least with 71,332 voters (2.55%).
INEC also assured that all Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for the newly registered voters will be ready for collection well before election day.
With the final figures released, all eyes are now on Anambra as the state prepares for what promises to be a decisive governorship contest.
