ANAMBRA GOVERNMENT PLANS CONSTRUCTION OF SECOND AIRPORT
The Anambra State Government has announced plans to begin the construction of a new airport in Ndikelionwu, Orumba North Local Government Area.
During an inspection of the proposed site, the Managing Director of Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport, Engr. Martins Emeka Nwafor, explained that the visit was to assess a suitable and flyable location for the development of an airport and an accompanying industrial park within an aerotropolis model.
Nwafor, who also chairs the state’s Airport and Aerotropolis Committee, described the project as a potential economic breakthrough, capable of unlocking untapped opportunities and attracting major investments.
“This initiative will integrate aviation infrastructure with surrounding commercial, residential, and logistics facilities, creating a vibrant airport-driven city,” he said. “Having more than one airport in the state will accelerate industrialisation and foster overall development.”

Leaders of Ndikelionwu community, including former President-General of the Welfare Association, Hon. Fabian Nwosu, and the Vice President, Hon. Ifesinachi Chukwurah Onwurah, expressed appreciation to the state government for siting the project in their area. They pledged the community’s full support, security, and cooperation to ensure the project’s success.
Those who joined the tour of the proposed site included Prof. Charles O. Ofoegbu, MD/CEO of Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited; Retired Air Vice Marshall Ben Chiobi, SSA to the Governor on Security; architect and Sliding Towers founder, Mr. Chukwudi Ezenwa; as well as traditional leaders and elders of Ndikelionwu.
Also present were geologists and geophysicists from the Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited, who carried out geomapping of the area.
