The Anambra State Government has declared Friday, November 7, 2025, a work-free day for all civil servants ahead of the state’s governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday, November 6, by the Head of Service (HOS), Mrs. Theodora Igwegbe.

According to the statement, the directive was approved by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to enable workers to travel to their respective communities and participate fully in the electoral process.

Mrs. Igwegbe explained that the work-free day is intended to promote active voter participation, describing voting as a vital civic responsibility and an essential contribution to good governance and democracy.

She further directed political appointees, permanent secretaries, and heads of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to ensure that the directive is properly communicated and strictly complied with across all government offices.

“This decision is aimed at encouraging the state’s workforce to actively engage in the election that will shape the future of Anambra State,” the statement added.

The Anambra governorship election is expected to be a keenly contested poll, with major political parties intensifying their campaigns across the state.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
