A patrol vehicle belonging to the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), popularly known as Amotekun, went up in flames on Thursday in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

The incident occurred at the Mokola area, specifically under the Mokola bridge, causing panic among passersby and motorists in the busy axis.

Eyewitnesses told reporters that the Hilux van suddenly caught fire, and residents quickly rushed to assist officers of the security outfit in putting out the flames.

As of the time of this report, it is still unclear what triggered the fire outbreak, the extent of the damage to the van, or if there were any casualties.

Authorities are yet to release an official statement, but efforts are ongoing to fully quench the fire and secure the area.

The incident has drawn attention from residents who described it as both shocking and concerning, given Amotekun’s crucial role in maintaining security across Oyo State and the wider Southwest region.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
