AMOTEKUN ARRESTS 21 UNDOCUMENTED FOREIGN NATIONALS IN ONDO

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, has arrested 53 suspects across the state for alleged involvement in various offences, including kidnapping, murder, cultism, burglary and illegal immigration.

Among those arrested were 21 undocumented foreign nationals found in two apartments in Owo, the headquarters of Owo Local Government Area.

The state commander of Amotekun, Adetunji Adeleye, said the foreigners claimed they entered Nigeria from neighbouring West African countries to engage in menial jobs and phone repairs.

However, he said the suspects could not produce the required documents authorising their stay in Nigeria, including ECOWAS papers.

Adeleye disclosed that the foreigners were arrested following intelligence provided by members of the Fulani community in the state.

He said the command had observed an increase in the movement of foreigners through the state’s forests and cities under different pretexts.

The commander added that the 21 foreigners would be handed over to the appropriate government agency for further investigation and necessary action.

He also warned landlords against accommodating individuals without properly verifying their identities and activities, saying property owners could face scrutiny when their premises are linked to suspicious activities.
