AMMON WITHDRAWS COURT CASE, BACKS ELECTRICITY METERING PROGRAMME

The Association of Metering Agents and Manufacturers of Nigeria (AMMON) has withdrawn its court case over issues surrounding electricity metering and expressed support for the ongoing national metering programme.

The association said its decision followed engagements with relevant stakeholders and a renewed commitment to finding practical solutions to challenges affecting the metering sector.

AMMON noted that expanding access to electricity meters remains critical to improving transparency in electricity billing and reducing disputes between distribution companies and consumers.

The association said a more effective metering system would help ensure that electricity users are billed according to actual consumption rather than relying heavily on estimated billing.

Stakeholders in the power sector have repeatedly identified inadequate metering as one of the major challenges affecting Nigeria’s electricity market, with millions of consumers still requiring proper meters.

AMMON said it would work with relevant government agencies, electricity distribution companies, manufacturers, and other industry players to support the implementation of the metering programme.

The association also urged stakeholders to prioritise local manufacturing and ensure that metering equipment meets approved technical and quality standards.

Industry observers said the withdrawal of the legal action could create room for greater cooperation among stakeholders and help accelerate efforts to close Nigeria’s metering gap.

AMMON reaffirmed its commitment to supporting reforms aimed at improving electricity distribution, strengthening consumer confidence, and promoting a more transparent power sector.
