The Alumni Association of Egbeoba High School, Ikole Ekiti, has appealed to the Federal Government to return the institution to its original location, saying its relocation over two decades ago disrupted its legacy and development.

The National President of the alumni association, Prof. Femi Omotoso, appealed during a press conference in Ikole Ekiti on Thursday, as part of activities marking the school’s 70th anniversary.

According to him, a Federal Government restructuring between 1998 and 2000 led to the displacement of the school from its original campus of 46 years to pave the way for a Federal Government College. He described the move as a “devastating blow” that affected the school’s physical development and morale.

“The displacement disrupted decades of tradition, identity, and infrastructure,” Omotoso said, noting that before the relocation, the school had ranked among the top institutions in South West Nigeria for academic excellence and character formation.

He stated that the alumni association remains committed to repositioning the school through reconstruction, renovation, and facility upgrades. As part of its 70th anniversary projects, the association is investing over N300 million in legacy initiatives.

These include a N250 million state-of-the-art ICT centre, a N50 million school bus, expanded mentorship programmes, and the preservation of the school’s historical records. Omotoso explained that the ICT investment is particularly important given the increasing adoption of computer-based tests in national examinations such as WAEC and NECO.

He also commended Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji for supporting the education sector, urging further investment in technology-driven learning to enhance students’ competitiveness.

Chairman of the 70th Anniversary Planning Committee, Ayodele Ajiboye, echoed the call for a return to the school’s original site, saying many alumni felt a deep emotional attachment to the historic campus.

“We are pleading with the Federal Government to take us back to our historic site for the proper development of this institution,” Ajiboye said, adding that some old students were moved to tears during a recent visit to the former campus.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
