ALLY MCCOIST TIPS HAALAND TO SMASH CRISTIANO RONALDO’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GOAL RECORD
Former Scotland striker and football pundit Ally McCoist has tipped Erling Haaland to rewrite history by breaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s all-time UEFA Champions League goal record.
Ronaldo, now at Al Nassr, sits comfortably at the top with 140 goals in 183 Champions League appearances. Many believed his record would stand the test of time. But with Haaland already on 50 goals in just 49 games, the debate about whether the Norwegian can surpass Ronaldo is heating up.
Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist admitted he once thought Ronaldo’s tally was unbreakable. “The fact that we are even talking about Erling Haaland potentially beating Cristiano Ronaldo’s record is crazy,” he said. “I could never have seen that happening. But if he stays injury-free, he could beat it and plenty of other records along the way.”
Since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, Haaland has been nothing short of sensational, breaking records and terrorising defences across Europe. At just 24 years old, the striker has time firmly on his side—and if his scoring rate continues, McCoist’s prediction might soon become reality.
