The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court sitting in Apo, Abuja, on Monday reaffirmed October 8, 2025, as the scheduled date for the arraignment of lawyer Victor Giwa on charges of alleged forgery and impersonation.

Justice Onwuegbuzie, presiding over the matter, expressed visible displeasure after discovering that both the police prosecutor, Theophilus Silas, and the defendant, Mr. Giwa, appeared in court on a day that was not listed for hearing.

The judge, who was reportedly furious, questioned how and why the matter was brought before the court despite having already adjourned proceedings to Wednesday, October 8.

Consequently, the court declined to hear Giwa’s bail application and ordered that he be returned to police custody, effectively stalling his efforts to secure release from remand.

“This matter was not scheduled for today. There was no order of abridgment of time for arraignment or hearing,” Justice Onwuegbuzie ruled, maintaining the previously fixed date.

Giwa, who appeared representing himself, was arrested following a bench warrant issued on September 15, 2025, after the initial arraignment failed to hold. His co-defendant, Ibitade Bukola, remains at large, with police operatives said to still be tracking her whereabouts.

Prosecution counsel Theophilus Silas, representing the Inspector General of Police (IGP), informed the court of his readiness to proceed with either the arraignment or the bail application, but the judge stood firm on maintaining procedural order.

Giwa and Bukola are accused of forging a legal document purportedly from the law chambers of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Awa U. Kalu, with the alleged intent to deceive the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).

The controversial document reportedly sought to influence or halt an arraignment scheduled before Justice Samira Bature of the FCT High Court in Maitama on July 2, 2024.

While the case has been marked by delays and controversy, the court’s reaffirmation of October 8 sets the stage for formal arraignment proceedings against Giwa.
