The Federal Government has explained that the recent reshuffling of Service Chiefs and security heads was part of President Bola Tinubu’s renewed effort to strengthen Nigeria’s fight against terrorism, insecurity, and violent crime.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the changes reflect the President’s determination to reinvigorate the country’s security architecture and deliver better results.

“This strategic overhaul is designed to infuse fresh energy, innovation, and accountability into our national defence and intelligence systems,” Idris stated.

“The mission is to deliver better results, strengthen coordination among the services, and stamp out terrorism and violent crime in every part of Nigeria.”

The Minister added that President Tinubu’s directive to the new service chiefs is clear — “every inch of Nigerian territory must be secured, and every citizen must live free from fear.”

Idris dismissed reports suggesting the change in military leadership was linked to allegations of a “Christian genocide” in Nigeria, stressing that the move was purely strategic and aimed at improving operational efficiency across the armed forces.

He further noted that the Tinubu administration remains confident in its ability to handle the nation’s security challenges, and is open to collaboration with international partners, including the United States.

“The Government of Nigeria remains open and willing to work closely with the government of the United States, other friendly nations, and partners, to achieve our shared goal of the complete elimination of terrorism on Nigerian soil,” Idris said.

The Minister also highlighted that the results achieved under Tinubu’s leadership — particularly in the last two years — have been “real and remarkable.”

According to him, the President has shown strong political will to support the military and ensure that those responsible for disrupting national peace are brought to justice in line with the rule of law.

“The military and other security agencies are winning the war on terrorism,” Idris added.

The Federal Government, he concluded, will continue to prioritise national security, accountability, and collaboration to ensure lasting peace across all regions of the country.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
