The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has declared that the title of Alaafin of Oyo holds the highest prestige among all traditional titles in Yorubaland.

Oba Akanbi made this assertion on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, to his palace in Iwo, Osun State.

“I am not aware of any title in Yorubaland that surpasses the Alaafin,” he stated. “The Alaafin remains supreme because it is the title held by Oramiyan, and I align with that legacy.”

He further expressed confidence that with humility and transparent leadership from Oba Owoade, Oyo would witness peace and remarkable progress. He emphasized the importance of maintaining and strengthening the long-standing cordial relationship between Oyo and Iwo.

Oba Akanbi also condemned the practice of certain traditional rulers allegedly sponsoring negative media against fellow monarchs. He urged for unity and a renewed focus on collective growth and development across Yoruba kingdoms.

In his remarks, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Owoade, affirmed his commitment to fostering harmony, stating, “The bond between Iwo and Oyo dates back generations, and I am committed to preserving and deepening that relationship.”

In a dramatic twist, Oba Akanbi announced his decision to renounce the title of Oluwo and adopt the title of Alaafin of Iwo, citing its historical and cultural significance as the most revered title in Yorubaland.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
