ALAAFIN CELEBRATES OBASANJO AT 89, CALLS HIM NATIONAL ICON
The Alaafin of Oyo, Akeem Owoade, has described former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo as a remarkable leader and living legend as he marked his 89th birthday.
In a congratulatory message issued on Friday through his Media and Publicity Director, Bode Durojaye, the monarch praised Obasanjo’s enduring contributions to Nigeria’s development and leadership.
The statement noted that Obasanjo’s integrity, courage, and dedication to public service have remained a source of inspiration to many Nigerians.
Obasanjo served as Nigeria’s president under the Fourth Republic after winning the 1999 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party. He held office from May 29, 1999, to May 29, 2007.
The Alaafin described the former president’s life as a shining example of resilience and leadership, adding that his vision has continued to shape Nigeria’s future.
“You are indeed a distinguished and quintessential statesman. Your unwavering dedication to public service, integrity, and the greater good of the nation serves as a beacon of inspiration to us all,” the statement read.
Owoade also commended Obasanjo for fostering unity and progress in the country, describing him as a pillar of strength whose leadership legacy continues to inspire future generations.
He prayed that the former president would be granted renewed strength and wisdom as he celebrates another milestone in his life.
