Police Nab Suspected Stolen Goods Dealer in Akwa Ibom, Recover Looted Items

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a man, Elijah Etim Nyah, for allegedly receiving stolen and vandalized property in Ikot Ekpene.

According to a statement released on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the arrest was made following credible intelligence and the confession of a previously apprehended suspect linked to a vandalism case.

During a raid carried out on July 28, 2025, at around 3:45 PM, officers stormed a black spot at No. 56 Aba Road, Ikot Ekpene, where they recovered a stash of suspicious items, including electric wires and an iron protector. These items are believed to have been looted from an abandoned Chambers of Commerce building on Etokebe Street.

Further investigation led police to Elijah Etim Nyah’s shop and residence, where additional materials suspected to be stolen were recovered. These included:

Assorted cut-to-size PHED electric cables

Burnt and peeled copper wires

Cut-to-size aluminum roofing sheets

The police say investigations are ongoing, and Nyah will be charged in court once inquiries are completed.

DSP Timfon John emphasized the police's commitment to cracking down on vandalism and illegal trading in stolen property. She also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities in their communities.

This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by security operatives in Akwa Ibom to rid the state of criminal elements and restore public confidence.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
