Former First Lady Aisha Buhari has visited former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar at his residence in Abuja, with the meeting taking place amid heightened political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections. Atiku, who disclosed the visit on Wednesday, described the meeting with Aisha as warm and said he appreciated her decision to visit him.

According to Atiku, the meeting also drew attention to the need for leaders and others seeking a better Nigeria to remain focused on the welfare and future of citizens. He said Nigerian families were facing increasing pressure from the rising prices of essential goods and services, including food, transportation, education and healthcare.

The former Vice-President said the economic difficulties affecting households required greater attention, stressing the need for an economy capable of creating opportunities for Nigerians. He added that citizens should be able to live with dignity and have hope for a better future.

Aisha Buhari, who is the widow of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has remained largely away from active partisan politics since leaving office as First Lady in 2023. Her visit to Atiku comes at a period when political parties and prominent political figures are increasingly engaging in consultations and activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

Atiku is currently the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress for the 2027 election. The purpose of Aisha Buhari’s visit was not publicly disclosed, and neither Atiku nor the former First Lady indicated that the meeting represented any formal political alignment. The development, however, comes against the backdrop of growing political activity as parties and politicians prepare for the next general election.
