AIR PEACE REFUTES TAX EVASION CLAIMS, SEEKS TALKS WITH LAGOS GOVT
Nigeria’s largest airline, Air Peace, has denied reports alleging that its Chairman and CEO, Allen Onyema, and Vice Chairman, Alice Onyema, are facing a tax evasion lawsuit filed by the Lagos State Government.
In a statement, the airline described the claims as “surprising and unsubstantiated,” noting that neither the company nor its executives had received any court summons or official notification regarding the alleged suit.
The reports had claimed that the state revenue authorities initiated legal action over an alleged ₦94 million tax bill, weeks after Onyema publicly criticised federal tax reforms.
However, Air Peace insisted that all its corporate and personal tax obligations have been fully settled and remain up to date in compliance with existing laws.
“We wish to state unequivocally that neither the Onyemas nor Air Peace has been served with any court summons or official notification regarding the purported suit,” the airline said.
Despite denying the allegations, the company expressed readiness to engage with the Lagos State Government to resolve any potential discrepancies.
It emphasised that such engagement would be in the interest of transparency, accountability, and due process.
The airline also highlighted the contributions of its leadership to Nigeria’s aviation sector, stating that it remains focused on providing safe and reliable services and would not be distracted by the controversy.
