AIR PEACE DISPUTE: UNION HONOURS POLICE INVITATION

The Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria has rejected a petition filed by Air Peace against the union and other aviation stakeholders, describing the allegations as ridiculous.

The union said it honoured an invitation from the Nigeria Police and presented its account of the events surrounding the dispute with the airline.

The disagreement followed an industrial action by aviation unions on August 11, which disrupted Air Peace operations at the Lagos and Abuja airports. The action was linked to allegations that the airline had failed to remit the five per cent Ticket Sales Charge to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority as required by law.

The union said Air Peace’s petition accused several organisations, including the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, NCAA, the police airport command and aviation unions, of various offences.

ATSSSAN Secretary-General, Francis Akinjole, said the union had explained its position to the police and that the authorities indicated they could invite other parties, including Air Peace, for further discussions.

The union also said the police appealed to all parties to maintain peace, stressing the importance of protecting Nigeria’s aviation industry.

The dispute remains subject to further engagement among the affected parties as efforts continue to resolve the issues.
