Agric Ministry Declares Prayer And Fasting To Combat Food Crisis
The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has called on its staff to engage in prayer and fasting as part of efforts to tackle Nigeria’s growing food insecurity.
An internal circular dated June 11, 2025, and signed by the ministry’s Director of Human Resource Management, Mrs. Adedayo Modupe O., urged all employees to join in the spiritual exercise, seeking divine intervention for “protection and national development.” The circular was shared via the ministry’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday.
According to the notice, the prayer sessions are open to all directors, deputy directors, assistant directors, value chain desk officers, and other personnel within the ministry.
“This is to invite all staff of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to a solemn prayer session for God’s guidance and success in supporting the government’s efforts to achieve food security,” the document reads.
Themed “Divine Intervention for Protection and National Development,” the sessions will be held at Conference Hall “B” of the ministry’s headquarters in Area 11, Abuja, from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM on June 16, 23, and 30, 2025. Staff members are expected to fast on each of these days.
A ministry insider, who spoke anonymously, stressed the seriousness of the situation:
“We are facing major challenges in meeting our food security goals. While various programmes and policies are being implemented, we also recognize the need for spiritual guidance to help us overcome these issues and ensure all Nigerians have access to adequate and nutritious food.”
