AGO-OJA IS AGO-OJA: PALACE REAFFIRMS THE DISTINCT HISTORICAL IDENTITY AND TRADITIONAL STATUS OF AGO-OJA, REJECTS THE DESIGNATION “ISALE-OYO”
Traditional council issues formal declaration asserting the autonomous heritage and historical roots of the community, calling for the immediate cessation of misnomers in public and administrative discourse
The traditional leadership of Ago-Oja has formally reaffirmed the distinct historical identity and independent status of the community, categorically rejecting any attempts to subsume its heritage under the designation “Isale-Oyo.”
In a comprehensive historical and cultural declaration released from the palace, council elders and traditional titleholders emphasized that Ago-Oja possesses a unique founding lineage and administrative heritage that predates modern territorial realignments.
The palace noted that conflating the ancient settlement with neighbouring districts distorts historical facts and undermines the cultural autonomy traditionally enjoyed by the people of Ago-Oja.
Community leaders pointed out that official correspondence, historical archives, and traditional governance structures have consistently recognized Ago-Oja as a distinct entity, urging researchers, media practitioners, and government agencies to respect the proper nomenclature.
The declaration further cautioned local administrative bodies against utilizing unauthorized descriptive labels in land administration, cultural mappings, and civil registries.
The palace concluded by calling on sons and daughters of the soil both at home and in the diaspora to remain proud of their heritage while assuring the public of the community's commitment to peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and historical accuracy.
