Protesters march barefoot to Governor's Office in Abeokuta over dilapidated infrastructure, severe economic disruption, and continuous neglect across key state transit networks

Hundreds of aggrieved youths and community residents staged a peaceful protest in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to express outrage over the delayed reconstruction of severely dilapidated road networks across key industrial and residential corridors in the state.

The demonstrators marched barefoot to the Ogun State Secretariat and Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs to draw attention to their daily hardships. Protesters noted that the decision to march barefoot symbolized the economic stripping and severe infrastructural distress experienced by residents due to collapsed roads, which have crippled local commerce, damaged vehicles, and heightened commute risks.

Spokespersons for the youth coalition criticized the delayed execution of long-promised road rehabilitation projects across critical commercial routes, including the Sango-Ota, Oke-Aro–Matogun, and Aseese corridors. They urged the state government to prioritize taxpayer-funded infrastructure investments, repair high-density transit channels, and establish clear delivery timelines for pending projects.

Addressing the demonstrators on behalf of the state government, senior administrative officials commended the youth for their peaceful conduct and assured them that their formal petition would be delivered directly to Governor Dapo Abiodun for immediate action. State representatives reiterated the administration's commitment to urban renewal and ongoing infrastructure upgrades, promising swift intervention to address the identified road defects.
