Nigerian music heavyweights Burna Boy, Davido, Shallipopi, Rema, and Ayra Starr have emerged as top contenders in the 2025 edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).

Both Davido and Burna Boy secured five nominations each, with Burna Boy’s track No Sign of Weakness and Davido’s latest project 5ive making the cut for Album of the Year. They also earned nods for Song of the Year and Best Collaboration with their hit singles.

South Africa’s DJ Maphorisa matched their tally with five nominations, including Album of the Year and Best African DJ, while Moroccan rapper El Grande Toto also clinched five slots with his hits Salgoat and Diplomatico.

Shallipopi, one of Nigeria’s fast-rising street-pop sensations, earned four nominations, including Song of the Year and Artiste of the Year. Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz also bagged four nominations, maintaining his stronghold in East Africa, while South African singer Tyla secured four as well.

Tanzanian star Juma Jux received three nominations, including Song of the Year for Ololufe Mi. Nigerian acts Rema and Ayra Starr were equally recognized with three nominations each.

Nigeria was earlier announced as the official host of the 2025 AFRIMA awards ceremony.
