The Africa Social Impact Summit has intensified its call for stronger global action and increased investment in sustainable development during activities surrounding the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. The initiative is building on the momentum of the fifth Africa Social Impact Summit held in Lagos, where stakeholders focused on mobilising capital and partnerships to address development challenges across Africa.

The summit’s participation at UNGA is aimed at bringing Africa’s development priorities to a wider international audience and strengthening connections between governments, investors, development organisations, businesses and social impact leaders. Organisers said the engagement would provide an opportunity to highlight practical solutions capable of attracting more financing for sustainable development and expanding the impact of initiatives addressing social and economic challenges on the continent.

The Africa Social Impact Summit has increasingly positioned itself as a platform for bringing together stakeholders interested in social innovation, impact investment and sustainable development. Its engagements have focused on issues including access to finance, inclusive economic growth, climate action, healthcare, education and other areas connected to the Sustainable Development Goals. The initiative is seeking to translate discussions at the summit into partnerships and investment opportunities that can produce measurable outcomes.

At the UNGA engagements, stakeholders are expected to examine how public and private capital can be better mobilised to support development projects in Africa. The discussions also seek to address the financing gap facing many developing economies, where limited access to affordable capital can slow progress on infrastructure, social services, job creation and other development priorities.
