AFE BABALOLA DECRIES DEPLORABLE ABUAD ROAD, URGES FG ACTION

Founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, Aare Afe Babalola, has called on the Federal Government to urgently rehabilitate the Ado-Ijan-Ikare Federal Road, which serves as a major access route to the university.

Babalola said the poor condition of the road had continued to cause hardship for motorists, students, staff and other residents who depend on the route.

The road connects Ado-Ekiti with neighbouring areas and also provides access to important institutions, including Afe Babalola University, the Federal Polytechnic, and the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport.

The legal icon expressed concern over the slow pace of work on the highway, despite the Federal Government having awarded a contract for its expansion and reconstruction.

He said the condition of the road was affecting academic and economic activities, noting that staff and students often face difficulties travelling between the university and surrounding communities.

Babalola urged the Federal Government and the contractor handling the project to intensify work and ensure that the road is completed as quickly as possible.

He stressed that the route was important not only to ABUAD but also to residents, businesses and travellers using the road to connect Ekiti with neighbouring states.

The university founder had previously raised concerns about the road, describing it as a major access route for an institution that attracts students from across Nigeria and other countries.

He appealed to the government to treat the rehabilitation of the road as a priority, saying improved infrastructure would support education, commerce and wider economic activities in Ekiti State.

Babalola also urged relevant authorities to ensure that work on the road progresses steadily until the project is completed and fully opened to road users.
