Ghanaian referee Daniel Laryea has confessed that he felt nervous before officiating the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final between Morocco and Nigeria.
Speaking to reporters upon his arrival at Accra Airport, Laryea also denied any claims that he favoured the host nation during the match.
The semi-final ended 0-0 after 120 minutes, with Morocco eventually triumphing over Nigeria 4-2 in a penalty shootout.
“I’ve officiated at three AFCON tournaments, but this is the first time I’ve been assigned to a semi-final,” Laryea said. “Being chosen for a game of this magnitude shows that the coaches trust your skills. But naturally, you feel a bit nervous because of the level of the match.”
