ADP PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRANT CHALLENGES PARTY’S NOMINATION
A presidential aspirant on the platform of the Action Democratic Party, Dr Johnson Chukwuka, has taken the party and the Independent National Electoral Commission to court over the emergence of Abbas-Bin Aliyu as the party’s candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
Chukwuka filed the suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja, challenging the validity of the party’s presidential primary held on May 29 and 30, 2026.
In Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1853/2026, he is asking the court to declare that the primary was not validly conducted and to reject Aliyu’s emergence as the party’s presidential candidate.
The aspirant is also challenging the subsequent submission of Aliyu’s name to INEC as the party’s flagbearer.
According to Chukwuka’s legal team, the submission of Aliyu’s name to INEC, which was displayed on the commission’s notice board on August 1, was unlawful.
The case adds to ongoing legal disputes involving political parties and their nomination processes ahead of the 2027 general election.
The claims in the suit remain subject to determination by the court.
