An Action Democratic Party presidential aspirant, Dr Johnson Chukwuka, has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja to challenge the emergence of Abbas-Bin Aliyu as the party’s candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

Chukwuka, in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1853/2026, is asking the court to declare that the party’s presidential primary held on May 29 and 30 was invalid and to set aside the result that produced Aliyu as the winner.

He is also seeking an order declaring him the duly elected ADP presidential candidate from the disputed primary. His legal team argues that the process breached provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and the party’s guidelines for conducting the primary.

The suit comes amid a separate dispute over the submission of the party’s presidential nomination form to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The ADP had reportedly petitioned the Inspector-General of Police over an alleged unauthorised upload of a presidential nomination form on the INEC portal. The party also asked INEC to preserve electronic records connected to the disputed upload and investigate the matter.

An internal memorandum reportedly asked Aliyu to clarify whether he had any knowledge of or involvement in the disputed transaction.

The court is expected to determine the validity of the disputed primary and the nomination process that produced Aliyu as the ADP’s presidential candidate.
