ADEYANJU PETITIONS ICPC TO PROBE EX-RIVERS SOLE ADMINISTRATOR IBAS OVER ₦283BN ALLOCATION
Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retd.), the immediate past Sole Administrator of Rivers State, over alleged mismanagement of public funds.
In a petition addressed to the ICPC Chairman, Adeyanju alleged that Ibas received ₦283.3 billion within six months of his tenure as Sole Administrator but left virtually nothing to show for it.
Ibas was appointed to lead the state during the six-month suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Adeyanju argued that despite the massive allocation, the only visible achievement was what he described as a “cosmetic renovation” of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex.
“Aside from the Assembly renovation, no projects were executed, no accounts were published, and no transparency was offered. This is a clear case that demands urgent investigation and accountability,” Adeyanju stated.
The activist insisted that Rivers people deserve full disclosure of how their resources were managed, stressing that the ICPC must move swiftly to ensure accountability.
As of press time, neither Ibas nor the Rivers State Government has officially responded to the petition.
The development has once again reignited debates about transparency in the management of state funds, especially during transitional or caretaker administrations.
