ADELEKE’S OSUN ELECTION VICTORY GOES UNCHALLENGED AS PETITION DEADLINE EXPIRES

The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has received no petition challenging the outcome of the August 15, 2026 governorship election after the 21-day constitutional deadline expired.

The deadline for filing petitions ended on Saturday, with none of the 14 political parties defeated in the election challenging the result.

Incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, was declared winner of the election after polling 511,067 votes.

His closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, secured 444,815 votes.

Fifteen political parties fielded candidates in the governorship election.

The Election Petition Tribunal opened its office at the Osun State High Court premises in Oke Fia, Osogbo, shortly after the election results were announced to receive petitions arising from the poll.

However, a staff member at the tribunal confirmed on the final day for filing petitions that no challenge had been submitted.

The Osun Accord Party Chairman, Victor Akande, described the decision of opposition candidates not to challenge Adeleke’s victory as a demonstration of political maturity.

He said accepting election results at the polls without resorting to prolonged legal battles could strengthen democracy.

The Social Democratic Party governorship candidate, Olugbenga Ajala, also said his party considered the election and the processes leading to it fair.

Ajala said the opposition parties would have approached the tribunal if they believed the election was not conducted fairly, adding that they accepted the outcome because they believed the process was credible.
