ADEBUTU DARES YAYI TO SUE OVER OGUN INDIGENESHIP DISPUTE

The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Ogun State, Oladipupo Adebutu, has challenged the All Progressives Congress candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, to take legal action over claims concerning his ancestry.

Adebutu made the challenge on Wednesday during a PDP campaign rally in Odogbolu Local Government Area of the state.

Adeola had earlier threatened to sue PDP chieftain Folake Marcus-Bello and suspended APC member Abayomi Hunye over claims that he is an indigene of Ekiti State. He described the allegations as false and libellous.

Adebutu said he was prepared to defend his position in court, claiming that he had documents to support his comments about Adeola’s ancestry.

He said, “I am waiting for their lawyer to also sue me so that we can go and present all our documents in the court of law.”

Adebutu also alleged that the APC-led government had restricted the PDP’s campaign activities by preventing the party from erecting billboards and removing or defacing some of its posters.

He further alleged that his campaign convoy came under gunfire and said the incident would not stop the party from campaigning across the state.

The APC disputed the PDP’s account of the shooting, alleging that the incident in Ososa involved security personnel attached to Adebutu. The party called on the police to investigate and establish what happened.

The APC State Publicity Secretary, Femi Nuberu, urged Adebutu and his campaign team to exercise restraint, while calling on political parties and their supporters to conduct their activities peacefully and within the law.

At the rally, Adebutu criticised the APC administration and promised that a PDP government would prioritise local government autonomy, payment of pensioners’ gratuities and access to workers’ cooperative savings.

Marcus-Bello, who attended the rally, maintained her position on Adeola’s ancestry and said she would provide more information in the coming weeks.
