ADC WARNS 2027 CANDIDATES AGAINST VIOLENCE

The African Democratic Congress has urged governorship candidates ahead of the 2027 elections to avoid violence, hate speech and actions capable of creating tension during the electoral process.

The party made the call while appealing to political candidates and their supporters to prioritise peaceful campaigns and respect the rights of other participants.

The ADC said political competition should be based on ideas, policies and programmes rather than threats, intimidation or inflammatory statements.

It warned that hate speech and violent rhetoric could increase tension among supporters and create divisions within communities.

The party also urged candidates to ensure that their supporters conduct themselves responsibly throughout the campaign period.

According to the ADC, politicians have a responsibility to promote peaceful participation and encourage citizens to exercise their right to vote without fear.

The warning comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum, with parties beginning to mobilise supporters and strengthen their structures across the country.

The party called on security agencies and electoral authorities to ensure that all political actors operate within the law.

It also urged candidates to accept the outcome of credible electoral processes and use lawful channels to challenge any grievances.

The ADC maintained that peaceful elections are essential to the stability and development of Nigeria.

It encouraged political parties, candidates, community leaders and young people to reject violence and work towards an electoral environment where citizens can freely express their political choices.

The party said responsible political leadership would help strengthen Nigeria’s democracy and reduce tensions during the 2027 election cycle.
