ADC SLAMS ICPC OVER ARREST OF EL-RUFAI’S DOCTOR, ALLEGES WIFE ASSAULTED

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly criticised the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over the arrest of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s personal physician, alleging that the ex-governor’s wife was also assaulted during a hospital visit.

In a statement, the ADC described the incident as an act of political persecution, claiming that protests by the doctor and Asia El-Rufai led to scuffles during which the former governor’s wife was assaulted before the physician was arrested.

The party accused the ICPC of denying El-Rufai proper medical care and using state institutions to intimidate political opponents. It issued an ultimatum to President Bola Tinubu to intervene and address what it called “authoritarian tendencies” in the handling of the case.

The ICPC had earlier defended its action, stating that the medical visit was misused for political activities, breaching court orders. It alleged the doctor made false statements regarding the purpose of the consultation.

The development has heightened political tensions, with the ADC warning of further consequences if the alleged mistreatment continues. El-Rufai remains in ICPC custody over ongoing investigations.
