ADC SEEKS EXPLANATION FROM ZULUM OVER VIRAL ARREST VIDEO
The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council has asked Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum to explain a viral video in which he allegedly directed the arrest of people expressing the slogan “Tinubu Must Go.”
The campaign council said the video raised questions because Zulum had previously denied ordering the arrest of people wearing shirts bearing the same slogan.
In a statement by its Director of Strategic Communications, Phrank Shaibu, the ADC asked the governor to clarify the contents of the video and reconcile them with his earlier denial.
The council said Nigerians needed clarity on whether people could face arrest solely for expressing opposition to President Bola Tinubu.
The ADC argued that peaceful political expression should not be treated as a criminal offence and urged the governor to withdraw any directive targeting peaceful protesters.
The controversy comes amid increasing political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition groups using rallies, slogans and other forms of public expression to criticise the administration.
Zulum has previously rejected allegations that he ordered the arrest of opposition politicians over the slogan, according to reports.
