ADC-PCC CHALLENGES TINUBU TO EXPLAIN ALLEGED PAYMENTS FOR MINISTERIAL APPOINTMENTS

The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council has asked President Bola Tinubu to respond to allegations that some ministers paid to secure their appointments.

The demand followed comments reportedly made by campaign spokesperson Alwan Hassan during a live television programme. Hassan allegedly claimed that some ministers were now trying to recover money spent obtaining their positions.

In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, the ADC-PCC said the allegation raised serious questions about the appointment process and required clarification.

The council stressed that the claims, if substantiated, would undermine the principles of public service. It said appointments should be based on competence, integrity and commitment to Nigerians rather than financial inducements.

It urged Tinubu to explain whether he was aware of the allegation and what steps his administration intended to take.

The council also challenged Hassan to identify the ministers allegedly involved, state the amounts paid and name those who received the money.

It called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to investigate. It also requested a public inquiry by the National Assembly, including an invitation for Hassan to provide evidence.

The allegations remain unproven. The council maintained that Nigerians deserve transparency about how public officials are selected and held accountable.
