The African Democratic Congress has called on security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission to investigate a remark attributed to the Edo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Jarrett Tenebe.

The ADC Presidential Campaign Council described Tenebe’s reported “AK-47 fire” comment as inciting and said it raised concerns about political conduct ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued by its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, the campaign council urged the police, Department of State Services and INEC to invite the APC chairman for questioning.

The ADC alleged that the remark could be interpreted as an attempt to intimidate voters and called for authorities to establish its context and determine whether it violated any law.

The party also criticised the APC leadership for not publicly condemning or demanding the withdrawal of the statement.

The controversy comes as political parties increase mobilisation and campaign activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

The ADC said security agencies should investigate the matter and take appropriate action if the remark is found to constitute a threat or incitement.

The APC and Tenebe’s position on the allegations should be considered alongside the ongoing calls for responsible political communication during the election period.
