ADC ACCUSES MBAH OF ANTI-PEOPLE POLICIES IN ENUGU
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the Enugu State Government, led by Governor Peter Mbah, of implementing policies it claims have worsened the hardship faced by residents.
The party’s 2027 governorship candidate, Ocho Obodoeze, made the allegations in a statement issued by his media team, describing the administration’s policies as anti-people and draconian.
Obodoeze criticised the government over alleged failures to fulfil campaign promises, particularly the pledge to provide clean, running pipe-borne water to households and neighbourhoods in Enugu metropolis within 180 days of assuming office.
He also faulted the demolition of properties and trading locations, including Old Park and Gariki in Enugu and Ogige Market in Nsukka. According to him, the exercise displaced residents and traders, leaving many without their sources of livelihood or adequate compensation.
The ADC candidate further accused the administration of imposing multiple taxes on traders, commercial tricycle operators and bus operators, arguing that the levies had increased the financial burden on residents and small businesses.
He also questioned the state government’s appointment and contract-award practices, alleging that qualified indigenes were overlooked in favour of people from outside the state. He raised concerns about the transparency of public procurement and the quality of some smart school projects.
Obodoeze pledged that an ADC-led government would prioritise security, improve the welfare of teachers, public workers and pensioners, and invest in agriculture, industrialisation and infrastructure to create jobs and strengthen the state’s economy.
He also called for a level playing field for political parties ahead of the 2027 elections, urging the government to allow opposition groups to operate and campaign freely.
The allegations were contained in the ADC candidate’s statement. The statement did not include a response from the Enugu State Government to the specific claims.
