ADAMAWA FLOOD DEATH TOLL RISES TO 29 – DEPUTY GOVERNOR FARAUTA
The death toll from the devastating flood that hit Yola, the Adamawa State capital, has climbed to 29, according to the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta.
Farauta gave the update on Tuesday, during a visit by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who was in Yola to provide relief materials and cash support to victims of the disaster.
Representing Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Farauta spoke at the symbolic distribution of aid, where she confirmed that the most recent assessment—carried out on Monday, August 4—showed that 29 lives had been lost due to the flooding that occurred on July 27, 2025.
The flood swept through several communities in Yola South Local Government Area, making it one of the worst flood disasters in recent memory for the twin Yola capital territory.
“The state government has done a lot to support victims on our own, but we truly appreciate the First Lady’s intervention at this critical time,” Farauta stated.
Senator Tinubu’s visit included the donation of cash, food items, and essential supplies to affected families, as part of her ongoing efforts to support vulnerable communities across the country.
Local authorities have called for continued support from both federal agencies and well-meaning individuals, as hundreds of residents remain displaced or in need of recovery assistance.
The Adamawa State Government has also urged citizens in flood-prone areas to remain cautious, especially as the rainy season continues.
