Nigerian actress Eniola Ajao has revealed why she sued a blogger over a viral video recorded at the burial of Odunlade Adekola’s father.

The actress said the clip, which circulated widely on social media, was edited in a misleading way that damaged her reputation, prompting her to seek legal redress.

The blogger, identified as Adabasioni Oluwafemi Aseoro, was arrested and prosecuted for defamation and cyberbullying under Nigeria’s Cybercrime Act. He reportedly spent two weeks at Ikoyi Prison before issuing a public apology.

In an Instagram post, Ajao confirmed the case, warning that anyone who spreads defamatory content online could face jail time.

“He assassinated my character, he paid for it in full. Some people are saying two weeks is too small. I forgave him because of his mother and wives. To err is human, to forgive is divine,” she wrote.

The actress also expressed gratitude to CSP Mariam Ogunmolasuyi and activist Aghedo Stephen for their support during the legal process.

She added that while she had forgiven Aseoro, she would not hesitate to defend her image in the future, cautioning: “If you think you can defame people online because it’s a free space, you will meet the course of the law… Your seven years imprisonment is loading.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
