Nollywood actress and producer Azeezat Shorunmu has opened up about the heartbreaking story of how she permanently lost her natural voice while working on a movie set.

Speaking in a recent interview on Oyinmomo TV, Azeezat revealed that the life-changing incident happened during the production of the movie Apase. On the very day they were set to begin filming, fellow actress Mummy Surutu received devastating news that her child had passed away.

Azeezat explained that out of confusion and emotional shock, she screamed uncontrollably — a moment that damaged her vocal cords beyond repair.

“At first, I thought it was a normal case of losing my voice temporarily. Usually, it clears up after a short while. But this time, it didn’t. Four months later, my voice was still blocked and only got worse,” she said.

The actress described the painful experience of being unable to speak properly, saying it felt like being dumb. Despite trying everything from medical treatments to spiritual remedies, including using anointing oil, her original voice never returned.

“When my voice finally came back, it didn’t sound like mine anymore. It became this tiny, cracked voice that everyone knows me by today,” she shared.

Though her vocal cords never fully recovered, Azeezat has embraced her unique raspy tone, which has now become her trademark in the Nigerian movie industry.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
