Shock in Nollywood as Actor Oloto Dies Suddenly After Hospital Visit — Kunle Afod, Yul Edochie Speak Out

The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the sudden and unexpected death of veteran actor Odunayo Olufemi, popularly known as Oloto.

The news of his passing was first shared by fellow actress Regina Chukwu via Instagram on Thursday, July 31, 2025. According to her, Oloto passed away shortly after visiting a hospital near his church.

Fellow actor and director, Kunle Afod, has now opened up about the sad incident in an emotional Instagram post. He explained that Oloto had gone to church but began feeling unwell. He reportedly walked across to a nearby hospital to complain about his condition but tragically died right after speaking with the receptionist.

Afod wrote:

“Odunayo Olufemi Oloto. I can’t believe you are no more. Your news came to me as a shock. You went to church, complained about it, and went to the hospital opposite your church. You sat down to complain to the receptionist about how you were feeling, but instead died immediately.
What a world. Vanity upon vanity. All is vanity. Rest in peace, my friend. It’s a wrap.”

The news has sparked conversations across social media, with many fans and colleagues expressing sorrow and shock over the actor’s sudden passing.

Meanwhile, popular Nollywood actor and filmmaker Yul Edochie has also reacted to the growing number of premature deaths in Nigeria, especially in the southeast. In a Facebook post, Edochie voiced concern over the spiritual direction of the country, suggesting that the neglect of traditional religious practices may be playing a role in the rise of early deaths.

Edochie wrote about a recent trip he made from Anambra to Arochukwu (Abia State), noting that he was disturbed by the large number of obituary posters he saw along the way. He believes that the ancestors are angry due to the abandonment of indigenous traditions and called on Nigerians to return to their roots for spiritual cleansing.

“The spirits of our ancestors are not happy. We’ve turned our backs on them. If we reconnect, they’ll fight our battles and protect us,” he wrote.

As fans continue to mourn Oloto, his sudden death has added to the ongoing discussion about health, spirituality, and the need for deeper reflection within society.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
