Nollywood actor Bucci Franklin, widely known for his role in To Kill a Monkey, has shared a touching story about his childhood and the challenges of growing up without a father.

In a heartfelt interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Franklin revealed that while his father was alive, he was absent throughout his upbringing — a void that made his teenage years difficult.

“As a kid, I had my woman shege. It is not easy to be a single parent. My mum had to go to work. Not having a father figure is quite difficult,” he said, praising his mother, Mrs. Joy, who raised him single-handedly.

The actor admitted that the absence of a father figure exposed him to negative influences. He recalled experimenting with alcohol, cigarettes, and girls at a young age, often returning home “completely wasted.”

Despite those struggles, Franklin emphasized the importance of male guidance in a boy’s life. “Maximum respect to women out there taking care of their children by themselves. But you need a man in your life. If you do not want to get married, you need a brother to play that role. For boys especially, you just need a father figure,” he explained.

Now older and wiser, Franklin says he has chosen forgiveness. “My dad is good, but he was not in the picture. I see him now for the man he is, not the man he was. I have forgiven him,” he shared.

Reflecting on his journey, the actor credited his mother for shaping him into the man he is today. “The man that I am today, and that I would continue to be, is because of Mrs Joy,” he added.

Franklin’s candid story not only highlights the struggles many fatherless children face but also celebrates the resilience and strength of single mothers raising the next generation.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
