Fatal Crash in Gombe Leaves Four Dead, Several Injured

A tragic accident along the Cham-Numan road in Balanga Local Government Area, Gombe State claimed four lives and left several others injured, including a child, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed.

The crash occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday when a Toyota Hummer bus traveling from Toro LGA in Bauchi State to Adamawa State lost control. The vehicle, which was carrying mostly children, exceeded the recommended speed limit.

“This is unfortunate because the bus was overloaded as the children were lapping one another, which increased the number of persons expected for such a vehicle,” said FRSC Sector Commander, CC Samson Kaura.

The bus was carrying 41 passengers, far above its official capacity of 18, which contributed to the severity of the crash.

Kaura urged drivers and road users to exercise caution, especially during night travel, highlighting the increased risks after dark. He also condemned attempts by some motorists to evade road enforcement officers by traveling at night.

“Though it is your constitutional right to travel anytime, night travel is riskier than daytime. Those attempting to escape road enforcement must desist,” Kaura warned.

The FRSC continues to investigate the incident while emphasizing road safety and adherence to vehicle capacity and speed regulations to prevent similar tragedies.
