ABUJA WOMAN HOSPITALISED AFTER ALLEGED ASSAULT BY HUSBAND OVER PREGNANCY DISPUTE
A woman identified as Mrs. Charity Olotu Fasasi has been hospitalised after allegedly being assaulted by her husband, David Fasasi Azeez, in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The incident reportedly occurred over the weekend following a heated argument between the couple.
When reporters visited the hospital, the victim was said to be too weak to speak. However, neighbours familiar with the situation described the case as part of a pattern of abuse, claiming that David had assaulted his wife on several occasions in the past.
According to one neighbour, the latest dispute began after Mrs. Fasasi informed her husband that she was pregnant with their fifth child. Instead of welcoming the news, he allegedly insisted she terminate the pregnancy.
“She said she was not going to terminate the baby and the husband got angry that he was not ready for another child,” the neighbour alleged.
Another resident claimed the man offered his wife N5,000 to procure an abortion, but she refused. Under pressure, the victim allegedly took medication on her own to end the pregnancy, which reportedly led to complications and excessive bleeding.
“When the drug started reacting and she began bleeding, the man made a u-turn and questioned why she changed her mind. This is where the latest issue began. But everyone in the neighbourhood knows he usually beats her — she just hasn’t been speaking out,” the source added.
As of Monday morning, David Fasasi Azeez’s whereabouts remain unknown.
The case has been reported to the Ushafa Police Division, though the FCT Police Command has yet to release an official statement.
