Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has called for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, to be led by a mayor rather than a minister.

Yesufu made the statement on her verified X handle on Friday, just hours before residents of the nation’s capital were set to vote in the FCT Area Council elections to choose leaders for the six area councils.

The co-convener of the #BringBackOurGirls movement said, “Abuja needs a mayor! This nonsense appointment of a minister as the executive head of FCT needs to stop.”

Reacting to her comment, X user @jayeobajaye wrote, “If we are even copying the American system of government, then we should copy it fully and not in a partial way that is leading us nowhere.”
