ABUJA MAN ON THE RUN AFTER ALLEGEDLY BEATING WIFE OVER FAMILY PLANNING ROW
A woman identified as Mrs. Charity Olotu Fasasi has been hospitalised after she was allegedly assaulted by her husband, David Fasasi Azeez, in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The incident reportedly occurred over the weekend after a heated argument between the couple.
At the hospital, the victim was said to be too weak to grant an interview.
Neighbours familiar with the situation alleged that her husband, who is now being sought by the police, had a history of abusing her. They described the latest case as part of a repeated pattern of violence.
One resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the dispute was triggered by a disagreement over family planning. According to the source, the mother of four told her husband she was pregnant again, but instead of accepting the news, he allegedly demanded that she terminate the pregnancy.
“She said she was not going to terminate the baby and the husband got angry, insisting he was not ready for another child,” the neighbour explained.
Another resident claimed that the man offered his wife N5,000 to procure an abortion, but she refused. Under pressure, the victim allegedly took medication on her own to terminate the pregnancy, which reportedly led to complications and heavy bleeding.
“When the drug started reacting and she began bleeding, the man suddenly turned around and questioned why she later changed her mind. That was how this present issue started. But it’s not new; everyone here knows he usually beats the woman, though she has not been speaking out,” the neighbour added.
As of Monday morning, the whereabouts of the suspect remained unknown.
The case has been reported to the Ushafa Police Division, but the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command has yet to issue an official response.
