ABU ROADS PROJECT EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS, SAYS VC

The Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Prof. Kabiru Bala, has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing roads rehabilitation and construction project on the university’s main campus, saying it has exceeded initial expectations.

Prof. Bala made the remark on Friday while inspecting the progress of work on major internal roads and drainage systems. He commended the contractors for their dedication and the quality of work delivered so far.

“The roads project has not only met but exceeded our expectations. The quality of materials and the speed of execution have been impressive. This will greatly improve movement within the campus and create a better environment for learning and research,” the Vice-Chancellor said.

The multi-billion naira project, funded through a combination of university resources and support from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), includes the construction of new roads, resurfacing of existing ones, and installation of modern drainage systems to prevent flooding during the rainy season.

The university’s Director of Physical Planning and Development, Engr. Ibrahim Mohammed, said the project is progressing according to schedule and is expected to be completed within the stipulated timeframe. He noted that safety and quality standards have been strictly adhered to throughout the execution.

Students and staff of the university have welcomed the development, describing it as a much-needed intervention that will enhance the aesthetics and functionality of the campus. The improved road network is also expected to boost commercial activities within the university community.

The Vice-Chancellor assured that the university management remains committed to continuous infrastructure development to provide a conducive environment for academic excellence. He appealed to all stakeholders to support the institution’s efforts in maintaining and protecting the new facilities.

The roads project is part of a broader campus renewal initiative aimed at repositioning Ahmadu Bello University as a leading centre of learning and research in Africa. Prof. Bala said more projects in other areas are in the pipeline as the university continues to invest in infrastructure for sustainable development.
