Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has reassured the people of Ijebuland that a new Awujale will emerge before May 29, 2027, while expressing optimism about the economic prospects of Ogun East Senatorial District.

Abiodun gave the assurance amid growing anticipation over the selection of a successor to the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, who died in July 2025 after a historic 65-year reign.

The succession process has attracted considerable attention, with traditional stakeholders and residents awaiting the emergence of a new monarch. However, procedural issues and legal challenges have complicated efforts to conclude the process.

The governor urged the people to remain calm and patient, expressing confidence that the necessary procedures would be completed to ensure a peaceful transition and preserve the integrity of the traditional institution.

Beyond the succession issue, Abiodun highlighted major economic opportunities expected to transform Ogun East, particularly through oil exploration around Eba Island and the proposed Gateway Deep-Sea Port in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.

He said the planned port and the Blue Marine Special Economic Zone could attract substantial investments, create employment opportunities and strengthen the state’s position in maritime trade, logistics and industrial development.

According to the governor, these projects could stimulate economic activities across Ogun East and provide new opportunities for businesses, investors and young people.

Abiodun reiterated his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and investment promotion, stressing that the government would continue working to improve living standards across the state.

He expressed optimism that the combination of strategic investments and continued development efforts would position Ogun East as an important economic hub, while the emergence of a new Awujale would help sustain the cultural identity and traditional heritage of Ijebuland.
